Back to the Future

Here’s a little look at our very own little piece of cycling history.
It seems as if the local boys of yesteryears have a habit of winning races.

I had a little talk with my old man about his competitive cycling days and boy did I get skooled by him. The conversation resulted in me looking through the annals of Singaporean cycling history. I found some very interesting articles and he wasn’t joking when he told me that his elder brother – Mansor Sawi – was one of the best of his generation.
An OG paying tribute to another OG. I didn’t manage to find any of my old man’s photos though.

To my late uncle Mansor Sawi & my father Rahim Sawi – Crank Arm Steady salutes the both of you!

One.

Hi Yasin….it truly amazes me how you managed to get these snippets!. Keep it coming.
Probably he was the best of his generation although you’ll never get it out of him. The countless trophy’s we had to polish during Hari Raya bears testament to his prowess. His compatriots would second that!
Well my Mamang Rahim was not bad either…
p.s How bad was the scolding by the way??

He did not scold me. Just told me stories of how it was back then. If you still have the trophies or any memoribilia – jerseys, caps, bicycles – please do let me know. I’d love to shoot them and post it on this blog. Maybe put up an exhibition along with the photos I have.
