T.O.S. 2010 Recce Ride Report
We start the day by meeting at Kallang to have early lunch before ride commenced at 3pm. The riders were accompanied by support vehicle courtesy of Dan with Acit on the wheels while the ladies handled the refreshments and Yasin documenting the action on reel.
Vira’s taking a quick sip en route to Jurong.
While we rode to the famous treacherous bare stretch of Lim Chu Kang for last year’s in the dark, this year Idris made the change so participating riders for this year can enjoy some nice view minus for the mind fucking moments on two wheels.
We hit our first major pitstop in Kranji Dam, approximately 30km from starting point. Here we took a 30 minute breather to freshen up before continuing on the second leg of the course.
By now most of us were pushing ourselves harder than we should be. At 30km/hr and some severe cramps, we quietly rode into the night wishing this never happened all thanks to the mighty uphills of Mandai and Sembawang.
Our second major pitstop was at Seletar Dam. We then continued and finally hit our 100km mark at Loyang – Changi. By now pain relief patches and sprays are your best friends.
We hit along Changi coastal road and proceed via East Coast and decided to end the ride at Lavender where we finally had a good proper meal since lunch. Total distance covered at 130km in 9 hours flat with average speed of 30km/hr and we had some minor route changes thus the loss in mileage.
All in all the recce ride helped us to rectify some unforeseen problems while avoiding and preparing for the actual tour. Though Tour Of Singapore 2010 is never a race to begin with, 150km around Singapore on fixed gear is not going to be an easy one for some. Anyhow, its definitely going to be a nice and eventful ride for all participating and while you’re at it, keep your riding routine going cause you don’t wanna quit on this one.
See you lovely people on the 11th!
